Anyone can check a broker — in five minutes and for free. Here is how, with direct links to regulators’ registers.
How to check a broker’s licence
- 1Find the licence number and the regulator’s name on the broker’s website — usually in the footer and the About section.
- 2Open that regulator’s register using the link below. Go only via the regulator’s official website, never via links in e-mails.
- 3Search for the company by licence number or exact legal name.
- 4Check the name, number, licence status (active) and the list of permitted services.
- 5Make sure the broker’s website address is listed in the register. Scammers often copy a real company’s name on a lookalike site.
- 6Check the regulator’s warning list and the IOSCO I-SCAN database — unlicensed firms end up there.

When to be careful
- There is no licence number on the website, or it cannot be found in the register
- The name in the register matches but the website address does not
- The licence was issued by a regulator unknown to international organisations
- The company is on the regulator’s warning list
